Peters, Everblades shut down Gladiators

ESTERO, FL – Anthony Peters stopped all 23 shots faced to earn his second shutout of the season and help lead the Florida Everblades to a 4-0 victory over the Atlanta Gladiators Saturday night at Germain Arena.

Florida thought it had an early lead, when it appeared John McCarron had scored a goal, but after a lengthy discussion among the officiating crew, the goal was waived off.  Moments later, Mike Ferrantino got the Everblades on the board after Brant Harris found him streaking through the slot, as he dished it from behind the net and Ferrantino fired it by Atlanta goalie Matt Ginn’s blocker side.

There would not be another score in the game until there was 2:44 remaining in the second period when Brendan O’Donnell fired the puck into the back of the net for the 32nd time this season.  O’Donnell was rewarded for an incredible individual effort where he skated around the outside of the left circle on his backhand before getting into the slot and quickly switching to his forehand and putting it by Ginn’s blocker giving the Everblades a 2-0 lead.

Dalton Smith added to the Everblades lead with 12:23 left in the third when he was given a pass from down low by Evan Bloodoff in the bottom of circle before ripping it past Ginn to make it a 3-0 game.

McCarron would get his disallowed goal from the first period back with 8:33 remaining in the third as he got the puck in front and roofed  a shot from a tough angle past Ginn, giving the Everblades their final goal on the night and capping off a 4-0 shutout for Peters.

The Everblades will now have a few days off before their first ever matchup with the Utah Grizzlies on Wednesday at Germain Arena at 7:30 p.m.
