Perry, Kesler lead Ducks past Detroit, 4-3 Each score two goals in win

In Detroit, the Anaheim Ducks started a road trip after a fairly successful homestand.  With playoff race in full swing, it’s time for the Ducks to make a run and Saturday night the edged the Red Wings, 4-3, in regulation.

Corey Perry and Ryan Kesler each scored twice in the win.

Anaheim Ducks“I think we had a lot of energy, especially in the third period,” Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. “They played [Friday] night and we played especially well [in the third].”

John Gibson made 24 saves for Anaheim who moved three games over the .500 mark.

“We weren’t good enough. They were good, credit to them for sure,” Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. “I thought they looked impressive. I didn’t think we managed the puck well enough. So when you turn pucks over, you end up playing more in your end, you end up not being able to apply as much pressure as we want to apply. Overall, not good enough.”

Darren Helm, Tomas Jurco and Danny DeKeyser scored for Detroit; the Wings fell to 1-5-2 in their last eight home games.

“This is our home. We’re usually a lot better at home,” Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg said. “We just need to go out and play the way we’re supposed to play. I think as soon as we get away from that, the other team gets turnovers and then it’s really hard to play.”

Jimmy Howard made 31 saves in the loss.

The game turned on a Gibson save off a breakaway attempt by the Red Wings’ Mike Green in the second period; the game was even at two all at the time.

“That was a big part of the game. If they go up 3-2 there …,” Gibson said. “My job is to keep us in the game and every save I can steal, I will. I was fortunate enough to make the save and everything worked out our way.”
