ST LOUIS, Mo – David Perron inked a new deal with the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday to remain with the club through the end of the 2011-12 season. The 22-year old left winger was a restricted free agent this summer after finishing his third season with the major club. Perron was a blessing emerging from training camp a few years ago and has continued to improve a more complete game each season while not sacrificing his scoring capabilities. Perron’s deal is reportedly worth $4.3 million with the 2010-11 seasons costing the Blues $1.8 million and the 2011-12 season paying Perron $2.5 million.
Perron has been one of the brightest spots on the emerging Blues roster and therefore is worth the time and efforts to see how he continues to blossom. Perron has proven to be a selfless player with a strong work ethic and a desire to excel.
While Perron’s deal eliminates one of three outstanding restricted free agents for the Blues. D.J. King has yet to sign the one year $500,000 deal offered by St. Louis on July 15th. There has been no word from King’s representation as to why he has yet to sign, or what more he may be seeking by way of terms. The remaining outstanding restricted free agent is Erik Johnson. The 2006 first rounder appears to be miles apart with the Blues front office in regards to the terms of his contract. There have been no specifics notated in regards to capital or clauses that may be holding up either side.
