READING, PA – The Reading Royals have signed rookie goaltender Luke Peressini to his first professional contract, the team announced Tuesday. Reading has agreed to ECHL deals with ten players and Peressini is the first netminder to sign for the team’s 20th anniversary campaign.
Peressini led the University of Western Ontario (USports) to two of its best seasons ever in 2018-20. After coming within one win of a national championship berth in 2018-19, Peressini won seven of his last eight appearances last season and led Western Ontario to a spot in the USports Canadian Championships.
“Even though Luke is entering his first professional season, his body of work in the OHL and at the university level demonstrates he can be a reliable puck stopper for us out of the gate,” Royals Head Coach Kirk MacDonald said. “We welcome Luke to Reading and look forward to helping his development.”
Over four seasons with OHL Kingston, Peressini accumulated a 68-39-8-6 record, 2.73 goals against average and .912 save percentage. He qualified for the postseason in his last three seasons of major junior hockey.
Before his four seasons of Canadian university hockey, the 6-foot-3, 195-lb. native of Nobleton, ON skated in the OHL for four seasons and was named the league’s Goaltender of the Year in 2014-15 with Kingston.
Best statistical season at Western Ontario was in 2018-19 where he posted a record of 18-10-0 with a 2.39 goals against average and a .918 save percentage.
