The Boston Bruins had their 19-game point streak snapped in Pittsburgh on Sunday night in a 4-2 loss.
“People talk about [the streak] a lot,” David Krejci said. “That’s pretty much all people talk about these days, but we just tried to take it game by game. This one was just two point on the table. Just couldn’t get it done today.”
Krejci had a goal in the loss.
Matt Murray made 39 saves to pick up the win.
The Penguins improved to 37-23-9 and moved into third place in the Metro Division.
“We’re down the stretch here, so every game is huge,” Murray said. “It’s basically playoff hockey from here on out, so [it] doesn’t really matter who we’re playing against. … Every game is going to be like that.”
Jared McCann struck for two goals for the Pens.
“I’m feeling more comfortable every game, it feels like,” McCann said. “I’m playing with one of the best players in the world [first-line center Sidney Crosby] too, so that kind of helps. We created a lot tonight. … I try to play good for the guys and not let them down.”
The Pens came out strong in the first period and scored twice, once by Nick Bjugstad.
“We always have our moments. I think this game is all about momentum. When you don’t have it and you get on your heels, it’s having the ability to minimize the damage and try to get the momentum back,” Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said. “That’s when we’ve got to simplify our game. We’ve got to manage the puck the right way. We’ve got try to get back on our toes. … I thought tonight, against a real good team that’s won a lot of games and has beat a lot of good teams lately, I thought we did a real good job in that regard.”
Jake Guentzel also scored for Pittsburgh.
John Moore also scored for the Bruins.
“I think we can be proud of [the streak], but not satisfied,” Moore said. “There’s no reason we can’t get back to work on Tuesday. That’s the special part about this group; guys really push each other. We expect a lot out of each other, so we’ll be ready on Tuesday.”

Jaroslav Halak made 33 saves
“We were light on all the battles in the first,” Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said. “You could tell they were better prepared to win the pucks. It cost us a couple goals. Eventually, we got going. I thought the second period was good. We bounced back. … That was a tough one to overcome against a hungry team with a pedigree.”
