In Detroit, Sidney Crosby made sure the Pittsburgh Penguins did not leave town without a win on Friday night.
Crosby struck in overtime to give the Pens a hard fought, 2-1, win over the Red Wings.
He scored a power play goal with 1:33 gone in the extra session.
“I just had to put my stick on the ice,” Crosby said. “We had tried that before but their goalie read it. The second time, [Malkin] just made a great, heads-up play.”
Matt Murray made 28 saves in the win.
“I thought I’ve gotten much better in the last few games and I felt good tonight,” Murray said. “We played last night (a 4-1 loss at the Boston Bruins), had a tough trip here and got in late, so I thought the guys did a really good job.”
Filip Zadina scored the lone Detroit goal.
“If you give them chance after chance they are going to make you pay,” Detroit’s Dylan Larkin said.
Bryan Rust tied the game at 1-1 in the third period for the Pens.
“We did a nice job of checking, which you have to do against that team, and when they got free, [Howard] did a great job,” Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill said. “We had the 1-0 lead going into the third, but they really leaned on us in that third period.”

Jimmy Howard made 35 saves in the loss, his 13th straight.
“This isn’t the outcome we wanted, but I thought it was a good effort,” Howard said. “This was absolutely a better game than I had against the Islanders. That was embarrassing.”
