Malkin got the game-winner on his 300th career goal.

“It feels good,” Malkin said. “It’s a good number. Against [Philadelphia], it’s a big rivalry, very important we win tonight. Three hundred on my goal, to get us two points, is very important.”

Matt Cullen also scored for the Pens.

“The result we’re happy with. I still think we’re not where we want to be yet. … Our overall assessment of ourselves is we know we need to be better,” Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said after the game.

Jakub Voracek also scored twice and Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds added markers for the Flyers.

“We didn’t make very many mistakes in the second two periods,” Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said. “Fifty-plus minutes where you’d say it’s a blueprint of how you want our team to play. … We don’t have to change anything. We have to tighten up a couple of things. Tonight, it wasn’t enough. Sometimes that’s the way the game is. There’s no solace in it, but also there’s no discouragement either.”

Marc-Andre Fleury had 38 saves for the win.

Michal Neuvirth was called into the game and made 12 saves after the Flyers pulled Steve Mason.

“I thought we played great tonight. Tonight was a good game. We competed for a full 60 (minutes). There were some funny bounces in the game, but that’s the effort that we want to see,” Simmonds said of the Flyers effort.
