Penguins stretch streak to nine

In Pittsburgh, the Penguins trailed the St Louis Blues, 1-3, but rallied with four unanswered goals in a 5-3 win on Wednesday night.

The Pens scored three times in the third period, including two goals goals, 12 seconds apart, by Sidney Crosby and Evan Rodrigues.

“[Crosby] was in beast mode tonight, I thought,” Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said. “He commands the puck. He’s so strong on the puck. … The goal he scored was vintage Crosby for me. He’s so good down low. He’s so good in the traffic. He’s so strong on the puck. When he’s playing the game that way, he’s the standard bearer for the team.”

Casey DeSmith got the start for the Pens and surrendered three goals and made 13 saves before getting the hook in the middle frame.

Tristan Jarry made 13 saves without allowing a goal.

Brayden Schenn, Jordan Kyrou, and Colton Parayko scored for the Blues in the second period

“Had some timely goals. We had a chance to win it there,” the Blues’ Ryan O’Reilly said. “We were in a good spot in that third period. Had a chance to win a game. Unfortunately, we didn’t. It’s frustrating. By no means was it our best game. That happens, but it was there for the taking.”

Bryan Rust hit for a pair of goals for the Penguins, who have won nine straight.

“I’m getting some confidence back,” Rust said. “I said it after last game, I’ll say it again, those extra practices I got in with the canceled games, or the postponed games, I think that helped a lot. … Get that confidence back shooting the puck, things like that, I think that did go a long way.”

Pittsburgh’s Brock McGinn scored with 72 seconds left n the game for the 5-2 final.

Jordan Binnington made 36 saves in the Blues loss.
