CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Cyclones (7-2-0-1) picked up a 3-1 win over the Quad City Mallards on Friday night. Forward Joe Pendenza recorded a pair of goals, while forward Jack Downing added one for the Cyclones. Pendenza added an assist, and forward Nick Huard extended his point streak to four games with a pair of helpers.
It was Teddy Bear Toss Night at U.S. Bank Arena, and it did not take long for it to start raining bears, as just 13:43 into the first, Huard sent a pass to Downing who was wide open on the back door, and he stuffed it into the net on the power play, putting the Cyclones up, 1-0.
Cincinnati took a 2-0 lead roughly two minutes later with another power play tally, when forward Zach Budish found Pendenza all alone in the slot, and he riffled it past Quad City netminder Steve Michaelek, extending the Cyclones’ lead to two goals after 20 minutes.
After a back-and-forth second period that saw no additional goals scored, the Mallards got on the board early in the third when Matthew Neal found the back of the net, cutting Cincinnati’s lead to 2-1, 2:44 into the period.
The two sides traded quality scoring chances throughout the remainder of the third, however Pendenza sealed the deal with an empty netter with 18 seconds left while being hooked from behind, to lift Cincinnati to a 3-1 win.
Cincinnati outshot Quad City, 28-24, on the night, while the power play converted on both opportunities. The Cyclones now take the road for a Saturday night matchup with the Kalamazoo Wings. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:00pm ET in Kalamazoo.
