Joe Pavelski is starting to heat up for the San Jose Sharks in time for the final push to the playoffs and Tuesday night he scored twice in a 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
“He’s got the hot hand,” San Jose’s Dylan DeMelo said. “He does it every night, though. If it’s not scoring goals, he’s doing something. He works hard all the time in practice.
They maybe weren’t going in as much as he’d like to early on, but he stays with it and he’s got such great talent around the net. We knew he’d break through, and he’s playing huge for us right now.”
The Sharks improved to 42-20-7 and are nine points clear of second place teams in the Pacific Division.
“In the short time I’ve known him (Pavelski), he cranks it up this time of year,” Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer said . “Those type of guys see the finish line here and the playoffs and they start to get really excited.”
Micheal Haley and Logan Couture also had goals for the Sharks.
Martin Jones made 22 saves to get the win.
Jack Eichel scored to lone Sabres goal in the loss.

Robin Lehner made 37 saves in taking the loss as the Sabres dropped to 28-30-12.
“They lived in our zone and lived in our zone until they got the 3-1 lead and they closed it out. I don’t think we deserved to win this one,” Lehner said of the Sharks time in the offensive zone.
