Pavelski signs 1-year, $3.5 million contract with Stars

Joe Pavelski signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Dallas Stars on Sunday. It has an additional $2 million in potential performance bonuses.

The 38-year-old forward could have been an unrestricted free agent after this season. He’s third on the Stars with 37 points (12 goals, 25 assists) in 38 games this season.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue being a member of the Stars organization,” Pavelski said. “Sarah, Nate and I have loved being part of this team and Dallas/Fort Worth community for the past four years. We have an incredible group of players in this locker room, and I am excited to continue to work with my teammates toward our goal of winning the Stanley Cup.”

Pavelski has 961 points (433 goals, 528 assists) in 1,206 NHL games. The seventh-round pick (No. 205) of the San Jose Sharks in the 2003 NHL Draft played his first 13 NHL seasons for the Sharks before signing a three-year contract with the Stars on July 1, 2019. At age 36, he led the Stars and was second in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs with 13 goals, passing Maurice Richard for the most goals scored in one playoff year by a player 34 or older, before Dallas lost the Stanley Cup Final in six games to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Pavelski became the 10th United States-born player in NHL history to score 400 goals in a 3-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche at American Airlines Center in Dallas on Nov. 26, 2021. He signed a one-year contract with the Stars on March 11, a base salary of $5.5 million with an additional $500,000 in performance-based incentives.
