Pavelski hits for a double to lead Stars past Kraken

In Dallas, Joe Pavelski had a hand in all five goals scored by the Stars on Wednesday night.

Dallas defeated the Seattle Kraken, 5-2, and Pavelski had a pair of goals and three assists in the win.

“It’s a fun night,” Pavelski said. “Puck’s going in the net, we’re getting a lot of chances. Usually when you have a night where you put a few points on the board, it’s your linemates that have been really good, which was a big part of the case here tonight.”

Jake Oettinger made 23 saves in the Dallas win.

Jared McCann and Calle Jarnkrok  were the Seattle strikers.

“It [stinks] to lose,” Jarnkrok said. “You play this game to win games. When you win games, you’re having fun. We’re [ticked] off tonight, but [we] have a new chance tomorrow to win a hockey game (at the St. Louis Blues).”

The Stars improved to 18-13-2.

“[Pavelski’s] a big-time competitor,” the Stars’ Esa Lindell said. “Back in the days when he was in San Jose, he was kind of trouble every night to play against him. He’s such a good right around the net front, so it is always a puck battle against him. We’re lucky to have him on our team.”

Roope Hintz gave the Stars a 1-0 lead with 50 seconds gone in the match, and Jason Robertson potted single markers for Dallas.

“It’s important to get out there, especially in your home rink, you want to get that first goal,” Dallas head coach Rick Bowness. “Tonight, we just came out of the gates great, and we were able to capitalize on that first chance.”

The Kraken dropped to 10-21-4.

“This team starts really good in their building,” Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol said. “We didn’t match that in the first. The 3-1 deficit after the first period, as we know, it’s tough to come back from behind in this league.

“Our second and third periods, effort-wise, were real good. We turned the game. [We] made a mistake at the end of the second to give the two-goal lead back. I have no issue at all with our effort and compete in the second and third period, but we didn’t match them in the first.”

Jani Hakanpaa added an empty-net goal at 18:18 of the third period for the 5-2 final.

Philipp Grubauer made 18 saves in the Kraken loss.
