Panwar Scores Against Former Team as Petes End Losing Streak in Flint

The Petes would find themselves looking for their first win in three games as they traveled across the border to take on the Flint Firebirds on Saturday night. Fresh off of a 3-2 loss to the Western Conference leading Windsor Spitfires on Thursday night, the boys would need to stop a strong Flint offence that ranks third in the OHL in goals. It would be a special game for Sahil Panwar as he would take on his former team for the first time.

The first period did not start the way the Petes had planned, as just 42 seconds into the game Amadeus Lombardi threw a puck on net from a sharp angle that would sneak past Liam Sztuska and give Flint a 1-0 lead. Peterborough would have multiple chances to even up the game, but Peterborough native and St. Louis Blues prospect Will Cranley would shut the door and give Flint the lead going into the break. The Petes would outshoot the Firebirds 16-14 in the period.

The second period did start the way the Petes had planned. At the 2:48 mark, Sahil Panwar would blast home a Chase Stillman pass to score against his former team and tie the game at 1-1. Just 24 seconds later, Tucker Robertson would put one past Cranley to give the Petes their first lead of the game at 2-1. The Petes would continue their lead in the shot department, outshooting Flint 27-25 in the second.

Flint would come out hot in the final frame determined to find an equalizer, but Liam Sztuska would keep the Petes lead intact with multiple big saves. The Petes would stay in front until the 11:49 mark, when Simon Slavicek would put a rebound past Sztuska to tie the game at 2-2. Neither team would be able to break the deadlock and the game would go to overtime. Despite both teams pressing in the extra frame, neither could capitalize and we would go to a shootout.

In the shootout, Nick Lardis and J.R. Avon would score and Sztuska would stop 3/4 shots to give the Petes the win.
