Panthers toughen up for next season

NOTTINGHAM, UK – Nottingham Panthers, seeking their first league championship since 1956, have added the second new face to their team in the shape of tough forward Alex Penner   The 23 year old joins the Panthers from Colorado Eagles in the CHL where he amassed 5+7=12 in 51 regular season games whilst adding 222 penalty minutes in a season that saw him drop the gloves with many of the CHL heavyweights including former Belfast Giant and Coventry Blaze forward Carlyle Lewis in 19 flights last season with 16 of those in front of the home crowd.   The Simcoe, Ontario native will be charged with protecting sharpshooters David-Alexandre Beaureguard and David Clarke who have already penned deals to ice at the Trent FM Arena this coming season.   Averaging 3.5 penalty minutes per game in his career to date, Coach Corey Neilson will be hoping that other teams follow suit in signing an eqnually penalised player for the coming term.   Never having taken less than 150 penalty minutes in his professional career, Penner has also spent some time with Lake Erie Monsters in the AHL and Johnstown Cheifs of the ECHL, both affiliates of the NHL Colorado Avalanche.   Whilst Penner’s arrival may be a gamble at this stage, look out for a tough Elite League this coming season, with the Nottingham Panthers at the forefront of that.
