In Sunrise, Sergei Bobrovsky made 31 saves and the Florida Panthers edged the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night, 2-1.
The Panthers improved to 7-1-2 and gained a split of their two-game set with the Wings.
“I was feeling good actually,” Bobrovsky said. “It’s nice to be back, nice to play, nice to see some pucks. I thought the guys did a good job. In the beginning I was a little bit scrambling, but then as the game went on, I thought the guys did a good job to help me out. It was a good win for us for sure.”
Filip Zadina was the Red Wings’ lone striker in the loss.
“We started good, won the battles, and scored the goal and felt pretty good,” Zadina said. “We failed again as a team and we need to score more than one goal.”
Detroit was scoreless on three power play chances.
“Yeah, those moments definitely give you a little boost of energy, boost of confidence, so it’s good to have those,” Bobrovsky said. “You’re not going to have them every night, but there are some chances like that. It’s good to have that opportunity to come up big for the team and stand tall for your teammates there.”
Patric Hornqvist scored Florida’s only power play, to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead.
“[Ekblad] did a good job getting the puck through and I just tried to screen the goalie and it hit my chest and went it,” Hornqvist said. “So yeah, it felt good. It hit my equipment. I got lucky on that one for sure, but it always hurts a little less when you see the puck go in.”
Alex Wennberg also scored for Florida when he tied the game up at 1-1.
“They had zone time on us and we had some fortunate blocks or recoveries,” Panthers head coach Joel Quenneville said. “[Bobrovsky] was big on second opportunities around the net as well. I thought we got through a couple of challenging kills and it could have been a difference in the game.”
Thomas Greiss made 20 saves in the loss and must really miss Uniondale about now.
“We need results and we need them now with the hole we’ve dug for ourselves,” the Red Wings’ Dylan Larkin said. “We had our looks. We just need to get a dirty goal around the net.”
