Panthers stay unbeaten in win over Avs

This week the Florida Panthers moved to the top of the NHL power ranking.  On Thursday night, the Panthers showed why they earned that spot with a 4-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche.

Sam Reinhart and Anton Lundell scored for the Panthers.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves to get the win over the Avs; the win was his 300th NHL victory.

“Yeah, it definitely means something,” Bobrovsky said. “I’ve been fortunate to play with great players, with great defensemen and forwards and teams. I appreciate them for this milestone. I had fun to play the game, and we were able to get two points tonight.”

Mikko Rantanen scored the Avs’ only goal.

Colorado dropped to 1-3-0.

“I mean, we’ve got 78 games left,” Colorado’s Gabriel Landeskog said. “That’s a lot of hockey. Start with one, and obviously playing another tough opponent here in a couple of days (at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday). There’s no secret formula, right? We’ve got to work and that’s what we are doing and what we are trying to do.”

Sam Bennett  scored his fourth of the season for Florida and  Carter Verhaeghe also had a marker in the win.

“I think we’re kind of taking it day by day right now,” Verhaeghe said. “We know we have a lot of talent in the room, but we know not to take anything for granted. So we’re taking it day by day. We want to win in the postseason. Right now it’s great, but that’s the goal.”

The Panthers are 4-0-0 on the new season.

“I think we have a good team,” Bobrovsky said. “We had a good team last year, and we have a great team this year. We’re together and we push each other in the practices and push each other in the games. It’s great to see some dividends and we enjoy every win, every point.”
