The Florida Panthers kept pace in the Eastern Conference playoff race but they need the Philadelphia Flyers to lose.
The Flyers won Thursday night, 4-3, over the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Panthers beat the Boston Bruins, 3-2, to stay alive.
“I loved our first period,” Panthers coach Bob Boughner said. “We’re playing urgent. Obviously we know the situation we’re in. That was a playoff kind of atmosphere game.”
Roberto Luongo made 26 saves to earn the win.
“It’s crazy,” Luongo said. “Just kind of like it was meant to be, right? The last few months we’ve been finding ways to win no matter what the situation is. That’s another example right there where [one of] our top players goes down and [McCann] steps right up, first shift, boom, scores the game-winner. It says a lot about our club.”
Jared McCann picked up the game-winner on a tip-in late in the third period.
Aleksander Barkov and Frank Vatrano scored for the Panthers to give Florida a 2-0 lead before the Bruins rallied to tie it.
Ryan Donato and Danton Heinen scored for the Bruins.

Tuukka Rask made 32 saves in taking the loss.
“A tough start. They came to play, that’s not a surprise to anybody. They’re fighting for their lives and need every point they can get. You have to be ready for that and we weren’t,” Rask said after the loss.
