Panthers score in bunches to defeat Ducks, 8-3

In Sunrise Thursday night, Radim Vrbata struck for a hat trick and Evgenii Dadonov scored twice in an 8-3 drubbing of the Anaheim Ducks by the Florida Panthers.

“It’s very important. When you score that first and second goal, it’s always better to play with a lead in this league,” Vrbata said. “You don’t forget your hat tricks.”

The Panthers had only 22 shots on the night.

James Reimer got the win on 31 saves.

Owen Tippett‘s, Aleksander Barkov and Vincent Trocheck also scored for Florida.

“We basically gave the game away, turnovers. We just didn’t have anything going tonight,” Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle said. “You just flush it, but it’s hard to flush. Coaches don’t flush that easily.”

Kalle Kossila, Andrew Cogliano  and Logan Shaw scored for the Ducks.

“We gave up those goals early that unfortunately got the game out of reach. Every goal we gave up was our fault. [Gibson] was taking the brunt,” Cogliano said of the brutal first period.

John Gibson got the start for the Ducks and yielded six goals on 17 shots;  Reto Berra releived Gibson and surrendered two goals.

“I thought the power-play goal was probably the biggest goal of the night when it was 2-1 to make it 3-1. We talked about our special teams before the game and I thought we responded in both areas: penalty kill and power play,” Panthers head coach Bob Boughner said.
