Panthers heap more woes on Kings in 3-2 win LA offense sputters

In Sunrise Thursday night, it was anything but sunny for the Los Angeles Kings as they lost yet again, this time 3-2 to the Florida Panthers. Brandon Pirri broke a 2-2 tie to give the Panthers a big lift.

“Things are going good right now,” Pirri said. “[I’m] just trying to not overthink and shoot pucks because when they’re going in, they’re going in. You just try to ride that as long as possible.”Florida Panthers logo

Roberto Luongo made 29 saves for the win; his fist win over LA since 2012.

“I don’t know what the stat is with that, but it doesn’t really matter what’s happened in the past,” Luongo said. “It’s all about the game ahead of us here. For me personally, it’s all about trying to give the team a chance to win. I haven’t been pleased with myself over the last few weeks. I want to make sure I gave a good effort and gave the team a chance and the boys rewarded me tonight.”

Florida is six points back of the eight spot in the east.

“We needed these two points,” Pirri said. “We’ve got to string something together here if we’re going to make a push. There’s a couple of opportunities there that I’d like back earlier in the game, but I’m just happy to contribute.”

Jonathan Quick made 17 saves in the loss and took most of the responsibility for the defeat on his own shoulders.

“I could have stopped both of [the Panthers’ final two goals],” Quick said. “Those are my fault. I should have stopped both of them. They were right in front.”

There was a Marian Gaborik sighting in Florida and he picked up a goal and an assist in the loss.
