PHILADELPHIA – Sam Reinhart hit for a double on Sunday. His second of the game was an empty-net marker for the 4-1 final over the Flyers. It also marked his 50th of the season.
“It’s pretty cool,” Reinhart said. “That’s obviously a number I’ve never really thought about. Certainly, the recipient of being put in some very good positions this year and playing with some very good players. So, it’s been fun.”
Anthony Stolarz made 32 saves in the win.
The Panthers moved to 46-20-5. The Panthers had lost on Saturday, 4-3, to the Rangers in New York.
Reinhart scored his first of the match midway through the opening stanza for a 1-0 lead to the Panthers. He scored off a shot form the right side of the slot.
Vladimir Tarasenko pushed the advantage to 2-0 when he scored 35 seconds into the middle frame.
Philadelphia dropped to 36-27-9, one night after defeating the Boston Bruins, 3-2.
“I thought we played really well,” Flyers coach John Tortorella said. “Couldn’t score. Their goalie played really well.”
The Panthers stretched the lead to 3-0 on a marker from Carter Verhaeghe at 4:43 of the third period. He scored off a shot from the left side.
“It was just one of those days,” Flyers goalie Felix Sandstrom said. “Not sure why and how it happened. Have to be more detailed and make sure I probably track them better and hold them instead of them bouncing off me. Not fun goals to let in.”
Bobby Brink was the lone striker for the Flyers. his goal at 12:54 of the third trimmed the deficit to 3-1, he scored off the power and added skater with Sandstrom pulled.
“I thought we got better as the game went on,” the Flyers’ Ryan Poehling said. “We created more and more offense and kept them away from our net. But sometimes you’ve got to give credit to their goalie and that’s how it goes, and that’s how it went tonight.”
Sandstrom made 11 saves in the loss.
