P-Bruins slip past T-Birds

Providence, RI – The Providence Bruins defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 2-1 Friday night to push their point streak up to 12 games. The P-Bruins got goals from Jordan Szwarz and Connor Clifton while Zane McIntyre made his 29th start of the season in net.

The Providence Bruins started the first period as a defensive force to be reckoned with. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers spent most of the time trying to get in close to McIntyre, but the P-Bruins defense kept them away from the crease. Providence’s best chance of the period came on the power play they received midway through, but the team’s entered the 1st intermission scoreless.

The second period started off strong for the P-Bruins with Jordan Szwarz lighting the lamp for Providence at 4:33. Tanner Pond picked up the helper on Szwarz’s 15th goal of the season and Providence took a 1-0 lead. Bridgeport struggled to get good shots on goal as the P-Bruins defense continued to limit their chances. Connor Clifton ended the period strong, netting his 5th goal of the season on a slap-shot through traffic. Gemel Smith and Anton Blidh earned assists on the play with 2:25 left in the period as Providence took a 2-0 lead into the 3rd.

The third period started with tensions high, but Providence kept on the defensive making sure to maintain their 2-0 lead. Bridgeport fought hard to make a comeback when Chris Bourque netted the Sound Tiger’s first goal on a power play at 15:22. Ultimately it was too little too late to change their fate, as the P-Bruins held on for a 2-1 win. The victory pushed McIntyre’s personal win streak up to 10 games.

McIntyre stopped 25 shots while Smith stopped 19 shots. Providence was 0/3 on the power play and 5-5 on the penalty kill.
