Oxford’s master stroke to pay dividends

OXFORD, UK – Marked down by many as a mid table certainty this season, my former team the Oxford City Stars pulled off a masterstroke signing last week to raise more than a few eyebrows across the leagues. Juraj Rusic bagged 71 points from 54 games last season in the EPL and significantly boosts the City Stars forward line to such an extent that many pundits are already suggesting a play off place for Oxford by the end of the season. The Slovakian, who formerly played for HC Kosice in the Extraliga is certainly a surprise addition to the league for many. Not least newly appointed City Stars coach Simon Anderson: “Obviously I am delighted to have signed a player of Juraj’s calibre. I approached him in the summer, just to let him know of my interest in him and to be fair he was really looking to stay EPL.I stayed in contact with him during the summer and had some of the Oxford players who are Swindon based also chip away at him,” Rusic joins a whole host of non British trained players in the league this year and Anderson is confident that Oxford have got a great deal: “With Juraj I feel we have arguably the best import in the ENL. Additionally he is not a gamble in the respect that when a team bring a new import in to the country it is in many respects a gamble as most of the time coach’s have never seen the guy play. With Juraj I know exactly what I am getting having worked with him in the EPL with Swindon Wildcats and last season with Wightlink Raiders,” As with any import it is also important that they add something more than just points on the board as Anderson is only too aware: “Juraj is a great guy in the room, will improve us on even strength situations and special teams. He will also make the players around him better,” So yet another hot shot for us poor defence men to deal with this year. Not that I am complaining as it simply signals the bar being raised yet again in the ENL. I am really pleased for the Oxford fans and management that they have managed to pull this signing off however I will be hoping Mr Rusic has an off day when he visits Streatham.
