Oxford City Stars move to cashless system to purchase tickets The Stars appoint Norwegian payments technology company TicketCo to improve ticketing and help grow fanbase •Tickets to be sold on Facebook for the first time to make club more accessible •Technology produces tickets on mobile phones for fans to scan into rink on match-day

Oxford City Stars ice hockey club is introducing cashless payment technology to transform how fans can buy tickets.

The National Ice Hockey League South Division One club have partnered TicketCo to offer fans mobile technology to make tickets easier to buy. The TicketCo system can send QR codes to supporter’s smartphones which are then scanned at turnstiles to gain entry on match-day.

Supporters will also be able to purchase tickets via the club’s Facebook page for the first time. They will also be able to purchase tickets for all home games online, or have tickets downloaded onto a mobile phone.

Greig Box Turnbull, Oxford City Stars director, said: “This is a great step forward for the Stars as part of our strategy to make the club more accessible and sustainable. By partnering with TicketCo we can provide supporters with more convenience and choice. Fans can still buy tickets on the door with cash, but equally they can now buy tickets in advance very simply on the website and Facebook.”

Jo Mundy, Oxford City Stars director, said: “The TicketCo system means supporters can now have tickets on their mobile phones. It is common practice in other commercial sectors, so why not ice hockey?
“Over time we hope this will help us reach more people and grow the club’s fanbase. Additionally, it will help us improve operationally by having one system for all of our payments.”

David Kenny, TicketCo Country Manager (UK) said: “The Oxford City Stars is the first ice hockey club to join the TicketCo stable and we’re delighted to be working with such a fantastic club. The Stars are a genuine community club and we’re looking forward to working with them to help make the fan experience better.”

The club’s investment in a new ticketing and e-marketing platform to help develop the fan-base forms part of the new ownership Board’s strategy to make the club sustainable.

“It is a challenging, but exciting time for the club,” added Mr Box Turnbull. “We are now beginning to introduce commercial practices designed to make the club more sustainable over time and our partnership with TicketCo forms a key part of that.”

TicketCo’s technology is compatible with Android and iOS devices and enables organisers to promote offers on food, drink and merchandise in advance of events. The event payments company is based in Norway and operates in Norway, the UK, Sweden and Poland.

The Stars are due to launch season tickets next month for the 2019/20 campaign.
