Overtime win puts Cardiff two points off top

Cardiff Devils moved two points off top spot in the Elite League, but needed overtime to do it, with a one-goal win over Dundee Stars.

Dundee scored the lone goal of a back-and-forth opening period through Bradley Schoonbaert, who redirected a point shot from Zach Taylor on the powerplay past Christian Stoever at 10:27.

Ryan Barrow responded early in the second, batting a bouncing puck past Jarrett Fiske at 20:57.

Bradley Schoonbaert scored his second of the game at 31:15, regaining the lead for the Stars as he redirected a shot from Justin Bean past Stoever.

Cardiff equalised once again at 35:22, this time through Cole Sanford, who fired home a rebound after Fiske had made an initial stop on Brandon Estes.

Kohen Olischefski gave the Devils their first lead of the night, redirecting Brandon Estes’ shot past Fiske at 51:53.

Dundee levelled the score at 54:40 through Kameron Kielly, sending the game to overtime with a slapshot from the slot past Stoever.

Cardiff pounced on a neutral zone turnover early into overtime, with Josh MacDonald redirecting the puck past Fiske to secure two crucial points.
