In Anaheim, the Ducks used three goals in a span of 3:29 to get past the Ottawa Senators, 4-1, Wednesday night.
Shea Theodore scored his first career NHL goal at 15:05 of the third and Carl Hagelin and Jakob Silfverberg completed the outburst for the win.
“We need that,” Hagelin said. “We showed a lot of character. After Shea scored that
goal, we really took over the game. I know there wasn’t that much (time) left, but they didn’t have any chances after that. You could just see the excitement on the bench.”
After a close fifty minutes of hockey, the wheels came off the Senators’ bus in the final few minutes of the game.
“They scored that 2-1 on the power play and I really don’t know what went on after that,” Senators forward Mika Zibanejad said. “(I) can’t really grip on to what happened. To be honest with you, I don’t have a good answer. It’s just something that can’t happen.”
Curtis Lazar scored the lone goal for the Senators.
Craig Anderson had 34 saves in the loss.
“I still don’t think we’re generating enough shots 5-on-5, particularly from my top line,” Sens coach Dave Cameron said. “I think we’re trying to look for the grade-A chance every time, and (at) this time of the year it’s a fine line and we were on the wrong side of it tonight.”
Frederik Andersen made 24 saves in the win for the Ducks who improved to 18-17-7.
