The Ottawa Senators were in a swoon for a couple of weeks but managed to finally punch their ticket to the playoffs Thursday with a 2-1 shootout win over the Boston Bruins.
Kyle Turris struck for the only goal in the skills competition to get the win.
The victory pushed the Sens into second place in the Atlantic Division, one point clear of the Bruins.
Craig Anderson made 28 saves to pick up the win for Ottawa who have won two straight after a long skid.
“It’s a great moment,” Ottawa head coach Guy Boucher said. “When you look at what these players have lived through and what the organization had to go through this year and the adversity that the players had to battle through, even today missing lots of key guys, I can’t help but be so proud and impressed by this group.”
Alexandre Burrows scored to tie the game at 1-1 in regulation to get the Sens the single point they needed to clinch.
“I thought it was a big goal for sure,” Burrows said. “I thought we were coming better in the second period. We played better and then after that I thought we really played well, we carried the play and we limited their chances. It’s nice to get the result that we’re looking for, facing adversity lately with injuries. And now it’s nice to get in and know that we’re going to be playing next week.”
The win snapped a six-game streak the Bruins were riding.
Drew Stafford gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead.

Tuukka Rask made 25 saves in taking the loss.
“I saw he shot it, it was one of those you try to take the net away and — skinny pants got me again. Blame the pants,” Rask said of Turris’ goal in the shootout.
