DETROIT, MI – The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame have won the CCHA title for the second time in three years. Going into the third period of Saturday night’s CCHA title game, Notre Dame trailed the Michigan Wolverines 2-1. A four goal third period would sink the University of Michigan as Notre Dame skated to a final of 5-2. Calle Ridderwall had two goals in the final period for the Irish and Jordan Pearce continued his dominating play in net allowing two goals on 30 shots. With the win, Notre Dame sealed it’s automatic bid into the NCAA Frozen Four Tournament. For the sixth time in league history, the CCHA has placed four teams into the Frozen Four Tournament. While Notre Dame received the automatic bid, Michigan was essentially a lock to make the Frozen Four as well. Miami (Ohio) also received an invite to the tournament; it’s fifth in six years. The final team receiving an invite were the Ohio State Buckeyes. Notre Dame will open up as the number one seed in the Northeast Regional and will playing against fourth seeded Bemidji State, the CHA champion, in Grand Rapids, MI. Northeastern will be the #2 seed and will take on Cornell. The Michigan Wolverines also received a number one seeding in the East Regional (Bridgeport, CT) where they will play number fourth seeded Air Force. Yale will take on Vermont in the other East Regional. Ohio State received a four seed and will travel to Manchester, NH for the Northeast Regional where they will open against number one seeded Boston University. New Hampshire will take on North Dakota in the other game. Miami has also received a number four seed as they will travel to Minneapolis, MN to play number one seeded Denver University.
