SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Last Saturday, the San Antonio Rampage came within 9.2 seconds of taking a 2-0 series lead, and then lost to the Oklahoma City Barons in OT.
San Antonio tried to return the favor at home in game three by tying the game late in the third period, but couldn’t close the deal, losing 2-1 in OT on Chris VandeVelde’s goal at 15:50 in front of a surprisingly small crowd of 3,678.
Both teams featured strong defenses in the regular season and this held true in game three. Barons’ goalie Yann Danis stopped 25 of 26 shots while Rampage goalie Jacob Markstrom stopped 34 of 36 in a losing effort.
Oklahoma City’s only regulation goal came just 1:18 into the opening period when Anton Lander beat Markstrom with a power play goal. It looked like the goal might hold up, but San Antonio’s James Wright also netted a power play goal just past the halfway mark of the third period, tying the game at one.
San Antonio had a golden opportunity in OT when the Barons were penalized for goaltender interference, but couldn’t get the puck past Danis.
Game four will be played at the ATT Center in San Antonio on Thursday where the Rampage will try to tie the series.
