Oilers score three in third for win over Jets Oilers remain warm under new head coach

In Winnipeg, the Jets took a 1-0 first period lead over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday,nursed the lad into the third period when the Oilers erupted for three goals in a 3-1 win to Edmonton.

Cole Perfetti was the lone striker for the Jets, his first period goal staked them to a 1-0 lead.

Stuart Skinner made 25 saves in the win.

The Oilers moved 9-12-1.

Darnell Nurse scored at at 13:11of the third to tie the game, 1-1.

“We had lots of chances … I was just trying to shoot through a screen and you never know what happens,” Nurse said. “When the first one goes in, I think for the group it takes a little bit of the load off the shoulders, and our power play went out there and did their thing.”

The Jets dropped to 12-8-2.

Leon Draisaitl put the Oilers up 2-1 at 2-13 with 2:13 left in the third, off a power play strike.

“Often guys deviate from the plan, it’s not working, just take shortcuts and try and create some more offense, but I didn’t see that tonight,” Edmonton coach Kris Knoblauch said. “What I saw was sticking with the game plan and working hard. They defended really well and made it tough getting to the net. But I’m certainly happy with the way the guys played tonight.”

Ryan McLeod hit for an empty-net goal with 20 seconds left in the game for the 3-1 final.

Connor Hellebuyck made 36 saves in the loss.

“It’s a lethal power play over there and it’s just starting to heat up,” the Jets’ Josh Morrissey said. “You never want to give up a late lead and give up that extra point late in the game. … It’s a disappointing one for us. We did a lot of good things to try to at least earn a point, but it’s frustrating.”
