Oilers edge out Senators, 3-2

In Edmonton, the Oilers responded to an early goal form the Ottawa Senators with three straight strikes and then held off the Sens in a 3-2 win, on Monday night.

Mikko Koskinen made 26 saves in the win.

The Senators’ Evgenii Dadonov and Tim Stutzle  bookedned the Oilers scores.

“I just try to play my best game every night, play hard and play my best for the team,” Stutzle said. “I like the rink here, but I just try to play my best hockey every night, it doesn’t depend on which team we play.”

The Senators dropped to 9-18-1.

“It’ll be the same game plan [Wednesday],” Ottawa’s Thomas Chabot said. “We had a few shifts that we kind of got away from it. That’s going to happen in a back-to-back game; guys get a little tired at times.

“It was a good game. I think we played them well. We’re playing against one of the most dominant, top players in the League right now (McDavid), so it’s a big challenge for us and I think we’ve done a good job.”

Leon Draisaitl snapped an eight-game goal drought for the Oilers.

Kailer Yamamoto and Alex Chiasson also scored for Edmonton.

“You can’t fault the effort,” Smith said. “I thought the guys really tried in the third period to tie it up. But give them credit, they did a good job.”

Joey Daccord made 34 saves in the loss.

“Our goal was to get out of the first period tied or better, because they’re the highest-scoring team in the first (30 goals), and we did that,” Senators head coach D.J. Smith said. “It’s on us, a couple of mistakes just on changes. Our penalty kill did a good job and there was 10 seconds left and guys were racing off, and then they had the quick-up on the other goal. Those are great shots by really good players.”
