Oilers doubled-up by Blues

In St Louis, the Blues’ Jordan Binnington made 26 saves in a 4-2 win over the visiting Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night.

The win extended the Blues home point streak to 10 games.

Vladimir Tarasenko and Jordan Kyrou hit for a goal and three points each in the win.

“We [had] some time to rest. I know a lot of guys spend it with families. It gives you more positive emotions,” Tarasenko said.

“When you play against one of the best players in the league, it’s always big competition. It was important for us. We don’t play at home for a while; next couple games are away games. But we prepared well for the game, work together. It’s nice to get a win when you don’t play for a while here.”

Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard were the Oilers strikers.

“We made a couple mistakes early, got behind early, and chased the game,” Oilers head coach Dave Tippett said. “We were around a little bit but turned over a lot of pucks and wound up chasing. When you’ve been off 11 days, that’s not an ideal situation.”

The Oilers dropped to 18-12-0.

Robert Thomas opened the scoring in the game to give St Louis a 1-0 lead.

“‘Vladi’ gave me a nice pass cross ice and I saw [Thomas] coming on the far side, so I wanted to cut to the middle,” Kyrou said. “I kind of saw his feet kind of stutter a bit, so I just made a little fake like I was going to go to the inside, and I went to the outside and kind of caught [Smith].”

St Louis’ Brandon Saad hit for a power-play goal in the third period for the 4-2 final.

Mike Smith made 29 saves in the Oilers loss.

“I thought we did some things right,” the Oilers’ Ryan Nugent-Hopkins said. “Overall, we just gave them too many good opportunities and ‘Smitty’ had to make some big saves.”
