In Dallas, the Edmonton Oilers scored three times in the third period on Wednesday night to break open a 3-3 game and send them to a 6-3 win over the Stars.
Warren Foegele and Connor McDavid scor4d in the outburst to give the Oilers a 5-3 lead
Mattias Janmark scored his second of the game into an empty net for the 6-3 final at 16:49 of the frame.
“They’re a great team,” Janmark said. “They’ve been playing some really good hockey. It was a really big test for us on the road. We’ve come off a few losses here, and we’re going into the (Christmas) break, so you definitely don’t want to go in on a losing streak.”
Edmonton snapped a three-game skid with the win, the Oilers improved to 18-14-2.
Stuart Skinner made 24 saves in the Edmonton win.
Roope Hintz put the Stars up, 1-0 in the first period, but Janmark scored 66 seconds later to tie it for Edmonton, 1-1.
“I thought as a whole, our group had a good game,” Dallas’ Mason Marchment said. “Everyone was competing and finishing their checks. Sometimes, those bounces [don’t go in].”
Dallas dropped to 19-9-6.
“It was a strange game,” Dallas coach Peter DeBoer said. “We were a little bit sloppy. I think we anticipated we would be a little bit. I was hoping we’d work our way out of it. But you can’t hand a team like that some goals, and I think we gave them some goals.”
Dallas’ Wyatt Johnston and the Oilers’ Zach Hyman traded goals for a 2-2 tie in the middle frame.
“Different teams present different challenges,” Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft said. “The Dallas Stars are a well-coached, well-oiled machine right now. They’re leading their division for a reason. This was an important game for us. This is not an easy building to take two points out of. The way we played tonight was inspired.”
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins put the Oilers up, 3-2, at 8:18 of the second.
The Stars knotted with 2:02 left in the second on a power play goal from Tyler Seguin.
“It’s five guys out on the ice that make mistakes,” Seguin said. “We had a couple of looks there in the third. We had a chance; the game was there. Learn from it, obviously it’s a tough situation after the long road trip.
“Every team does that. Every team has those games where they’ve got excuses if they want them, and we don’t want them.”
Jake Oettinger made 28 saves in the Dallas loss.
