Oilers double up Kings in Game 6, 4-2 Series tied, 3-3

In Los Angeles, the Kings fell behind by two goals to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night, rallied to tie, but fell 4-2, in Game 6.

Game 7 is set for Edmonton on Saturday.

Connor McDavid scored in the first period, and Evander Kane his for his first of the game for a 2-0 Oilers lead in the middle frame.

Mike Smith made 30 saves in the Oilers win.

LA’s Sean Durzi scored in the second period to get the Kings within one goal, and Carl Grundstromtied the game, 2-2, in the third period.

“Somebody a few years ago said that usually the fourth game is the toughest one to win. Pretty sure you guys know who it is,” the Kings’ Anze Kopitar said (referring to current Calgary Flames coach Darryl Sutter). “Obviously there’s something to it. We would have liked to close it out, but it didn’t happen, and we got to move on and look ahead to Saturday.”

Edmonton’s Tyson Barrie  broke the tie in the 15th minute of the third period for a 3-2 lead.

“We gave it back to them a little bit, but we didn’t break and we found a way to get one and I think it shows a lot of character in that group,” Barrie said. “And now we’ve got home ice and we’re headed back for Game 7. I think the boys are pretty pumped.”

Kane hit an empty net goal for the 4-2 final.

“I thought our players really dug in and found a way to win,” Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft said.

Jonathan Quick made 33 saves in the Kings loss.

“Hey, it’s the playoffs,” Kopitar said. “It’s going to be tight, and we were down 2-0. It didn’t faze us too much. I mean, we knew we had to get one on the power play at some point, so that was big. And then, obviously, (we) tie it up pretty early in the third. Just couldn’t push it over the line.”
