INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Tulsa Oilers once again came from behind, scoring three third period goals, en route to a 4-3 win over the Kansas City Mavericks in front of 4,281 fans at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena on Friday night to even its best-of-seven ECHL Mountain Division Semi Final Series at 2-2.
For the third time in the series, Kansas City found the net first, this time on Mark Cooper’s power play goal, his third goal of the playoffs, at 18:08 of the first , assisted by Willie Raskob. Off of a face off inside the Oilers zone, Cooper re-directed Raskob’s shot into the net to beat Tulsa’s Devin Williams and give Kansas City a 1-0 lead.
Stephen Perfetto added his fourth goal of the postseason 12:24 into the second, grabbing the puck off the left boards before charging into the zone all alone and beating Mason McDonald to tie the game. Alex Dostie picked up the assist on the play.
Kansas City re-gained the lead six-minutes later on Rocco Carzo’s second goal of the series. Corey Durocher chipped the puck towards the net, then Darian Dziurzynski picked it out of a defender’s feet in the slot and bounced it off of Williams and straight to Carzo, who found the net to make it 2-1.
Down entering the final frame, Tulsa’s Jared Thomas scored his second of the postseason at 2:59 on assists from Scott Moldenhauer and Roman Ammirato to pull the Oilers even.
Oilers captain Adam Pleskach then tipped the scales into Tulsa’s favor at 16:48, sending home a rebound to make it 3-2 with Ryan Tesink and Dostie collecting the assists.
Dosite added a goal of his own a minute and a half later, finding the empty net with McDonald pulled to give Tulsa a two-goal advantage.
Not to be outdone, Cooper scored his second of the night 34-seconds later on assists from Greg Betzold and Raskob to pull back within one, but they would not find the equalizer as Tulsa skated away with the win.
Kansas City hosts Tulsa again Saturday night for game five, with face off scheduled for 7:05pm. The series then shifts back to Tulsa for game six on Tuesday night. Game seven, if necessary, will also be played at the BOK Center.
