PHILADELPHIA – The Flyers continued their roll with a come-from-behind, 5-4, win over the visiting Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.
Nolan Patrick struck for the game-winner at the 2:01 mark of the extra session.
Patrick missed a chance to win late in regulation but missed high and wide.
“That one I missed, that stick’s not around anymore,” Patrick said. “Pretty frustrating missing that one. Felt nice to win it in overtime.”
Claude Giroux, Sean Couturier, Travis Konecny, and Wayne Simmonds scored for the Flyers in regulation.
“Right now we’re a confident team and it shows in how we handle ourselves throughout the game,” Couturier said.
Philadelphia improved to 23-23-6.
“We’re starting to get a few bounces and they’re coming to us and we’re bearing down and putting them in,” Simmonds said. “It’s now winning games as opposed to losing us games.”
Carter Hart made 40 saves to get the win.
“It helps when you know that your goalie can go steal a game. All you’ve got to do is keep believing. He gives us that confidence up front, just keep battling and whatever happens keep trying to score some goals,” Hart said after the win.
Connor McDavid, Zack Kassian, Ty Rattie, and Adam Larsson had the Oilers’ goals.
“Found a way to get a point, there’s a lot of things we can build off, especially 5-on-5,” Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse said. “But as a penalty killer myself can’t be letting the guys down by giving up four.”
Edmonton dropped to 23-24-4.
“You win at this time of the year when you kill penalties,” Oilers head coach Ken Hitchcock said. “You have to be able to do it if you’re going to win hockey games the last half of the season and we haven’t been able to do it for a little while, not to the level that you have to be if you’re going to be good at it.”
The loss was the fourth straight for the Oilers.

Cam Talbot made 34 stops in the loss.
“Got to have a short memory, take the point and move on. Should have been two (points),” McDavid said.
