The Ottawa Senators not only made it back to the NHL playoffs but got there on the backs of one of the most improbable runs in NHL history. Not only did they make some noise they scared the Montreal Canadians while doing so. Now the Sens head into this year’s NHL Entry Draft with a renewed sense of optimism the franchise hasn’t had since its Stanley Cup run a few years ago.
In last year’s draft, the Senators’ top two draft picks were defensemen and the year before Ottawa took center Curtis Lazar. As PHN moves along in the 2015 Mock NHL Entry Draft, our bold prediction is that the Sens will go back on offense and look at a couple of players.
Colin White’s name has come up a lot lately when talking about Ottawa pick at 18, but so has Travis Konecky’s, who played in Ottawa for the 67’s (OHL). Cut from the same cloth, but what makes this a tough pick is pressure from home fans to take the “home town kid.”
Also, Ottawa is not known for taking USA born players but we think things might be different this time around. It might be a tough pick between the two players but at the end of the day we expect Ottawa to make the following call.
“With the 18th pick in the NHL Entry Draft, the Ottawa Senators select, from the USA developmental program, Colin White.”
