Nottingham Panthers recorded a four-goal shutout win over Fife Flyers on Wednesday night to move up to third in the Elite League table and leave their hosts still searching for their first league point of the season.
Jason Grande stopped 21 shots to earn the shutout.
“It was a good game for us as a team,” said Grande after the win. “It’s a long trip up for us, and it’s never easy to come into this building, but we stuck together and played really well tonight.”
Mitchell Fossier opened the scoring at 16:00, converting Tim Doherty’s excellent feed into the slot to send the Panthers into the first intermission one goal ahead.
Ollie Betteridge struck twice in the middle period to give the visitors a commanding three-goal cushion heading into the final 20 minutes. The Flyers started the third period brightly but were continually denied by Grande, who was in fine form between the pipes.
“I haven’t been at my best recently, so it feels really good to get that game under my belt and feel the rhythm again,” added the Panthers’ goaltender.
Fife’s hopes were finally extinguished at 51:44 when Matt Marcinew poked home a loose puck after Shane Owen spilled Matt Spencer’s shot. The Flyers challenged for goaltender interference, but the goal stood with Marcinew clearly outside the crease.
“We’ll have a good rest day on Thursday and be back on the ice Friday to get ready for the weekend,” concluded Grande.
