UNITED KINGDOM – Telford Tigers 2 are in pole position to win the Laidler Cup after securing an impressive 4-2 victory at Hull Jets.

Oli Hunt, Karol Jets, Filip Supa and Charlie Webb were on target as the Tigers secured a valuable two-goal advantage.

With the home leg still to play next weekend, Tigers assistant head coach Dougie Wildman was understandably delighted with the result.

“The first leg of the cup final away to Hull with a 4-2 lead is great stuff,” he said.

“We knew we wouldn’t have an easy game in their barn, but we started well and soon had a two-goal lead.

“Hull never slowed down their attacks, but we were confident in our ability to shut them down and catch them on the break.

“By the second period, we had settled and the openings started to come for us. We knew that in the third period they would throw the kitchen sink at us, and they did.

“We showed great composure and although we had to kill a few penalties, the lads never gave less than 100 percent and that’s the performance we asked for.

“This sets us up for a barnstormer of a game next weekend to see who lifts the cup.

“We also want to give a great shout out to the coach full of supporters who travelled and made more noise than the whole of the full Hull Arena home fans.

“That gave the lads such a boost, so thank you all. See you all on the 22nd.”

Elsewhere in NIHL North, Whitley Warriors bounced back from their dismal display against Solway Sharks last weekend to collect two points against Solihull Barons.

Rolands Gritans, Callum Watson and Jamie Ord got the goals as the Warriors ran out 3-0 winners in their Moralee D1 fixture.

Blackburn Hawks moved up to fifth in the table with a hard-fought 4-3 victory at Widnes Wild.

Veteran forward Aaron Davies’ second goal of the game was the winner as the Lancashire outfit defeated Wild for the second successive week.

Jacob Lutwyche and Calum Ruddick were also on the scoresheet for the Hawks.
