Northern UK round-up: Sharks edge clear at the top, Warriors suffer cup defeat in Dundee

UNITED KINGDOM – Solway Sharks edged two points clear at the top of NIHL North Moralee D1 with a pair of road wins over the weekend.

The Sharks secured a comfortable 5-1 victory at Sheffield Scimitars and followed up with a 6-1 success at Nottingham Lions – Struan Tonnar scored three goals across the two games.

Callum Wilkinson (2) and Joe Walls (2) led the scoring for Billingham Stars as they ran out comfortable 6-2 winners at home to Blackburn Hawks.

The Stars were out of luck the following evening, slipping to a 4-1 defeat at Widnes Wild – Vlads Vulkanov, Richard Haggar, Kieran Beach and Thomas Stubley scored for the home team.

Jordan Barnes, Rolands Gritans, Dean Holland and Craig Johnson were on target as Whitley Warriors recorded a 4-3 home victory over Solihull Barons.

However, the Warriors were out of luck the previous evening, losing 3-0 at Dundee Comets in the Moralee Cup (North) – Joel Gautschi, Jonathan McBean and John Dolan got the goals.

Blackburn ended their Moralee Cup (Midlands) campaign with a 9-6 home defeat against Sheffield. Both teams exit the competition after the group stage.

Chris Hogarth weighed in with a hat-trick as Hull Jets secured a stylish 5-2 win at Sheffield Titans in the Laidler Cup (North).

Bradford Bulldogs boosted their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals with a 4-3 home victory over Altrincham Aces – Josh Stockton (2) topped the scoring.

Morgan Glasby grabbed the winner as Sutton Sting claimed a 1-0 home win against Coventry NIHL Blaze in the Laidler Cup (Midlands).

Dundee Tigers maintained their 100% record in the Scottish National League (SNL) with a 6-4 win at North Ayrshire Wild – Andy Henderson (2) was amongst the scorers.

Aberdeen Lynx player/coach Jordan Leyden led the way with a couple of goals as his team opened their SNL campaign with a 7-5 home victory over Kirkcaldy Kestrels.
