UNITED KINGDOM – Paisley Pirates’ Scottish National League title hopes suffered a setback as they were beaten at Belfast SNL Giants on Saturday.
Mack Stewart proved to be the difference-maker, bagging the decisive goal as the Giants secured a 4-3 shoot-out victory on home ice.
Table-topping Aberdeen Lynx took full advantage of the Pirates’ slip-up with a hard-fought 5-3 home win against Kilmarnock Thunder.
Kirkcaldy Kestrels enjoyed a four-point weekend, winning 5-1 at North Ayrshire Wild and 6-5 after overtime at home to Dundee Tigers.
Dundee Comets maintained their unbeaten league record with a 9-3 home success against the Tigers – Jonathan McBean (2), John Dolan (2) and Garry Simpson (2) topped the scoring.
In NIHL North, Solway Sharks moved six points clear at the top of Moralee D1 with a 5-4 home victory after overtime against Solihull Barons.
The Barons bounced back in style the following evening, romping to a 10-2 away win at Blackburn Hawks – Niklas Ottosson (3) and Philip Mulcahy (3) were amongst the scorers.
Sheffield Scimitars split their weekend double-header with Billingham Stars, winning 7-3 on home ice before slipping to a 4-3 defeat after a shoot-out on Teesside.
Vlads Vulkanovs (2), Jay Robinson and Matt Barlow were on target for Widnes Wild as they ran out 4-3 winners at Nottingham Lions.
Sheffield Titans moved to the top of Laidler D2 with a 6-3 home victory over Bradford Bulldogs – William Newcombe (2) topped their scoring.
Dan Hackford scored twice as Hull Jets won 4-3 at home to Telford Tigers 2, while Connor Mellett bagged a hat-trick for Coventry NIHL Blaze in their 7-2 home success over Nottingham Lions 2.
Altrincham Aces were beaten 7-4 at Bradford but had better fortunes on home ice as they defeated Sutton Sting by the same scoreline.
