Northern UK round-up: Double joy for the Barons, Sting cruise home against the Lions

UNITED KINGDOM – Solihull Barons enjoyed a productive weekend in NIHL North with victories in the league and cup.

The Barons secured a 6-5 win at Sheffield Scimitars in the Moralee Cup (Midlands) and followed up with an impressive 6-3 home win over Solway Sharks in Moralee D1.

Solway had better luck the previous evening as they recorded a stylish 5-1 home victory over Widnes Wild – Scott Crane, Scott Henderson, Iain Bowie, Liam Stenton and Kieran Hair got the goals.

Rolands Gritans (3), Jamie Ord (2) and Callum Queenan (2) were amongst the scorers as Whitley Warriors ran out 10-1 winners at Nottingham Lions.

Telford Tigers 2 kicked off their Laidler D2 campaign with a four-point weekend, winning 5-1 at Bradford Bulldogs and 4-3 after a shoot-out at home to Altrincham Aces.

Widnes bounced back from their defeat at Solway with a 6-4 home win over the Scimitars in the Moralee Cup (Midlands) – Kieran Beach (2) led their scoring.

Morgan Glasby weighed in with a hat-trick as Sutton Sting secured a comfortable 9-1 home victory over Nottingham Lions 2 in the Laidler Cup (Midlands).
