Northern UK round-up: Brown stars for Billingham, Shudra steals the show for Sheffield

UNITED KINGDOM – Thomas Brown was the standout performer for Billingham Stars in their 5-3 home victory over Sheffield Scimitars in NIHL North Moralee D1.

Brown recorded a 93.88 save percentage from 49 shots to help the Stars pick up their first points this season – Jack Emerson, Michael Elder, Chris Sykes, Lewis Hall and James Moss got the goals.

Whitley Warriors collected their second league win of the campaign with a 4-3 shoot-out success at Solihull Barons – Robert Farmer bagged the decisive goal.

Blackburn Hawks had a mixed weekend, losing 9-2 at home to Solihull in the NIHL Moralee Cup (Midlands) before bouncing back with a 10-6 league win at Nottingham Lions.

Widnes Wild secured a 9-8 overtime victory at iceSheffield against the Scimitars in the cup – Nathan Britton’s second goal of the game was the decider.

Iain Bowie (3) topped the scoring for Solway Sharks as they ran out 5-3 winners at home to Dundee Comets in the NIHL Moralee Cup (North).

Altrincham Aces and Sheffield Titans fought out two thrilling games in the NIHL Laidler Cup (North) over the weekend.

Sam Dunford’s late goal sealed a 6-5 home win for the Aces in the first match, but the Titans battled back to claim a 7-6 overtime victory in the return fixture.

The Titans trailed 3-0 early in the second period but recovered to grab the two points – Tate Shudra’s fourth goal of the game was the winner.

Ben Washburn weighed in with a couple of goals as Telford Tigers 2 claimed a 5-1 home success against Coventry NIHL Blaze in NIHL Laidler Cup (Midlands).
