UNITED KINGDOM – Whitley Warriors demonstrated their NIHL North title credentials over the weekend with a pair of victories in Moralee D1.
The Warriors kicked things off with a hard-fought 7-6 shoot-out success at Sheffield Scimitars – Harry Harley bagged the deciding goal.
They followed up by demolishing Blackburn Hawks 10-1 in a bad-tempered affair at Hillheads – Rolands Gritans (4) topped the scoring.
Chris Sykes weighed in with a couple of goals as Billingham Stars climbed up to third in the table with a 5-1 victory at Nottingham Lions.
Peter Gapa (2), Gordon Horne and Callum Boyd were on target for Solway Sharks as they ran out 4-3 winners at home to Solihull Barons.
The Barons had better luck in the Moralee Cup (Midlands), recording a 7-2 win at Widnes Wild to move a step closer to the semi-finals.
A victory over Blackburn in their final group game next weekend will see the Barons pip Wild to top spot in the group due to a superior head-to-head record.
While Wild are already through to the last four, they now face the prospect of meeting high-flying Solway for a place in the final.
Filip Supa (3) was the star of the show as Telford Tigers 2 maintained their place at the top of Laidler D2 with a 7-3 win at Altrincham Aces.
Lawson Glasby (2) led the way for Sutton Sting as they eased to a comfortable 8-1 home victory over Nottingham Lions 2.
Sheffield Titans moved to the top of the northern group in the Laidler Cup with a narrow 5-4 road win at Bradford Bulldogs.
