Nolan scores twice in LA win over Coyotes

In Glendale Thursday night, the Los Angeles Kings got two goals from Jordan Nolan, his first goals in an eon, that lifted the Kings to a 4-3 win over the Arizona Coyotes.

“I see some of the top players throw it at the net when they are in the corner. So why not give it a try?” Nolan said. “Yeah, it’s been awhile since I scored. Even last year, I felt like I had a lot of Grade A chances, but I just couldn’t put them in.”LA Kings 3rd

Jeff Zatkoff got the start for LA and made 25 saves for the win.

“Tonight was my first win as an L.A. King, so it’s nice to get that one out of the way,” Zatkoff said.

For Nolan, the goals were his first in 67 games.

“It’s a load off his back,” LA head coach Darryl Sutter said. “He’s done a lot of things for our team when he goes in the lineup. He’s won and fought some battles for us this year, and it’s good to see guys like that get rewarded.”

Trevor Lewis scored the game-winner and Dwight King also scored for the Kings.

The Coyotes were sloppy with the puck and their head coach was not pleased with the effort.

“You turn the puck over that many times, eventually it’s going to bite you,” Arizona coach Dave Tippett said.

Martin Hanzal scored twice for the Coyotes and Tobias Rieder also scored.

Mike Smith made 29 saves in the tough loss.

“I thought he was unlucky. He made some great saves. I’m sure he’s frustrated just like the rest of us,” Tippett said.
