COLUMBUS, Ohio- The No. 6 ranked Ohio State Women’s Hockey Team defeated the No. 1 ranked Wisconsin Badgers 3-1 finishing the weekend sweep at the OSU Ice Rink on Saturday. The last time the Buckeyes swept the Badgers was in the first round of the 2010 Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs. The last time these two teams faced each other in Madison, the Badgers swept the Buckeyes 7-0, 3-1.

Wisconsin’s powerful offense attacked the Buckeye goal like a pack of wolves firing 13 shots on goal compared to the Buckeyes 7. The Badgers struck first with a goal by Alexis Mauermann at 4:30 assisted by Mackenzie Steffen and Lauren Williams. The period ended 1-0 Wisconsin.
The Badgers continued their onslaught in the second period shooting 11 shots on goal while the Buckeyes shot 6. Buckeye freshman Emma Maltais tied the game up at 13:09 assisted by Jincy Dunne and Tatum Skaggs. This was Maltais first point of the night and 14th goal of the season. The second period ended 1-1.
Junior Charly Dalquist gave the Buckeyes the lead at 2:49 in the third period assisted by Maltais and Skaggs. Wisconsin continued a desperate attack in the third period shooting 11 more shots on goal while the Buckeyes had 7. Skaggs made it 3-1 at 19:57 on an empty net goal finishing the game. The Hartland, Wisconsin native had a game high three points and leads the team and the WCHA with 19 goals. Goaltender Kassidy Suave stopped 34 of 35 shots. The Whitby, Ontario native is in second place in program history with 2414 saves behind Chelsea Knapp’s 2421.
“The girls absolutely earned and deserved this win,” head coach Nadine Muzerall said. “These girls were going to play through anything today, you could tell they wanted this sweep more than anything. The women played with a lot of heart, and showed how relentless they can be. This is a huge moment for us as a team, and as a program. We’re going to enjoy this tonight, and we’re going to hit the ice for practice on Monday knowing that we can play with anyone in the country.”
