Nittany Lions upend Notre Dame in rematch, 5-3 Fighting Irish won opener, 7-6

On Saturday, before 6,150 loyal Penn State fans, the Nittany Lions defeated Notre Dame 5 – 3 to redeem themselves for the previous evenings 7-4 loss.

Penn State tied it up on a goal by David Thompson. The first period ended with Penn State outshooting Notre Dame 17-9.

The second period stared as the first did with Notre Dame scoring the first goal of the period by Dylan Malmquist. Penn State responded with three straight goals by Chase Berger, Alec Marsh and Ricky DeRosa.  

Two of the three goals came on the power play. Mario Lucia of Notre Dame got one back to close out the second period scoring. The only goal of the third period came on an empty net goal by Curtis Loik.
