LANCASHIRE, UK – Telford Tigers maintained their unbeaten record in Moralee D1 courtesy of a 5-3 home victory over Solway Sharks on Saturday.
Rick Plant (2), Jason Silverthorn, Jordan Stokes and Jonathan Weaver got Telford’s goals, with Iain Bowie (3) replying for the visitors. Telford were out of luck in the NIHL National Cup the following day as they fell 4-1 at home to Swindon Wildcats.
Philip Edgar hit a hat-trick for Whitley Warriors as the North East side recorded a 4-1 home success against Nottingham Lions. Andrew Hirst (2) led the way for Sheffield Steeldogs in their 7-3 win at home to Billingham Stars.
Kieran Brown (5), Aaron Davies (4) and Lee Pollitt (3) topped the scoring for Blackburn Hawks in their 16-4 victory at home to Deeside Dragons. Blackburn followed up with a 5-3 cup win at Billingham, while the Dragons lost 9-3 at home to Hull Pirates in the league.
In Laidler D2, Andy Dunn grabbed the decider as Altrincham Aces picked up a 3-2 home victory over Coventry Blaze NIHL.
Scott Morris weighed in with four goals for Sutton Sting in their 12-3 success at Deeside Dragons 2. Richard Haggar (5) and Gowan Beddoes (4) helped Hull Jets to a 13-2 home win over Blackburn Hawks 2.
Bradford Bulldogs surprised promotion-chasing Sheffield Senators with a hard-fought 6-5 home success.
PHN’s top two talking points
Sharks can feel positive despite defeat
Solway Sharks won’t be happy to have lost their unbeaten record against Telford Tigers, but they can take plenty of positives from the game.
The Sharks pushed the home side hard and Tom Watkins was forced to shorten his bench in the final period to ensure Telford picked up the victory.
Solway boss Martin Grubb will be encouraged by his team’s performance and they will fancy their chances of turning over the Tigers when they meet in Dumfries.
Bulldogs getting their act together
Bradford Bulldogs have struggled in D2 over the past three seasons, winning just nine league games, but there are signs of improvement this term.
Saturday’s 6-5 success over promotion hopefuls Sheffield Senators was Bradford’s second victory in four games.
The result should give them plenty of encouragement for the rest of the campaign and sends out a message that they won’t be the whipping boys this year.
