LANCASHIRE, UK – Sheffield Steeldogs maintained their 100% record in Moralee D1 with a 6-2 home victory over Nottingham Lions.
Solway Sharks recovered from two-goals down to win 3-2 after overtime on home ice against Whitley Warriors – Richard Bentham bagged the deciding goal.
Whitley bounced back the following night to record a 3-1 home success against Solihull Barons.
Stanislav Lascek (2) topped the scoring for Sutton Sting as they ran out 5-1 winners at home to Billingham Stars.
Billingham completed a miserable weekend with a 9-4 defeat at home to Blackburn Hawks in the NIHL North Cup.
Hull Pirates picked up four points in the same competition, winning 3-1 at Blackburn and 4-0 at home to Solway.
Telford Tigers lost 5-2 on home ice against Sheffield, but they regained the winning thread with a comfortable 9-1 win at Murrayfield Racers.
Widnes Wild still lead the way in Laidler D2 after recording an 8-0 victory at Coventry Blaze NIHL.
Richard Haggar grabbed the shoot-out decider for Hull Jets in their 4-3 home success against Telford Tigers 2 and he followed up with a four-goal haul in his side’s 6-3 win at Altrincham Aces.
Charlie Hammerton’s late goal secured a 4-3 home victory for Telford over Bradford Bulldogs, while Sheffield Senators triumphed by the same scoreline at home to Coventry.
PHN’s top two talking points
Stars’ slump is a mystery
Billingham crashed to two disappointing defeats over the weekend to make it seven games without a win.
Their recent form is a mystery, particularly when you consider some of the performances they produced earlier in the season.
On paper Stars have a squad that shouldn’t be losing seven games in a row. With fixtures coming up against the former EPL sides over the next couple of weekends, things could get worse before they get better.
Haggar fires a warning to D2 title rivals
Hull Jets’ forward Richard Haggar returned to form with a bang against Telford and Altrincham, bagging six goals over the two games.
Haggar and the Jets had endured a mixed start to the campaign, but their weekend performances suggest they could be a force to be reckoned with as the season progresses.
The 27-year-old scored 72 goals as the Jets secured a place at the D2 play-off weekend last term and another top four finish should be on the cards this time around.
