LANCASHIRE, UK – Sheffield Steeldogs are three points behind Moralee D1 leaders Telford Tigers after a comfortable 6-0 win at Nottingham Lions on Sunday.

The Steeldogs have two games in hand on Telford with the teams set to meet at iceSheffield next Saturday.

Jason Silverthorn (2) and Jack Watkins scored for Telford in their 3-0 win at Solway Sharks. The Dumfries outfit completed a disappointing weekend with a 4-2 defeat at Whitley Warriors.

Jozef Istocy weighed in with a couple of goals as second-placed Blackburn Hawks won 6-2 at home to Whitley.

Solihull Barons lost 8-7 after overtime at Hull Pirates, but bounced back to secure an 11-1 victory at Deeside Dragons.

Michael Elder hit a hat-trick for Billingham Stars in their 9-3 home victory against Blackburn in the NIHL National Cup. In the NIHL Autumn Trophy, Sheffield lost 7-3 at Peterborough Phantoms and Hull won 6-1 at Telford.

Sutton Sting extended their winning run to seven games in Laidler D2 with an impressive 5-3 victory at Altrincham Aces – Joe Colton (2) topped their scoring.

Altrincham had better luck the previous day as they ran out 6-0 winners at Sheffield Senators – Joe Greaves (2) and Jakub Hajek (2) were amongst their scorers.

Widnes Wild enjoyed a four-point weekend, winning 6-1 at Coventry Blaze NIHL and 6-2 at home to Telford Tigers 2.

Richard Haggar scored six for Hull Jets in their 13-1 home win against Deeside Dragons 2, while Ryan Kemp bagged four in Bradford Bulldogs’ 12-0 romp at Blackburn Hawks 2.

PHN’s top two talking points

McKenzie departure a big blow for Deeside

Scott McKenzie’s surprise departure from his role as Deeside’s player/coach has given the Dragons a major headache.

McKenzie did well to keep Deeside in D1 last season and hopes were high that they could build on that this term.

Results have been poor this season, but hopefully Deeside can find a replacement who can turn things around.

Victory can kick-start Billingham’s season

Billingham’s 9-3 cup victory over Blackburn on Sunday ended a 12 game losing streak for the Teessiders.

The Stars haven’t reached the heights they were expected to this season, but hopefully this result will spark an upturn in their fortunes.

Home fixtures against Solway and Hull over the next couple of weeks won’t be easy, but a four point return isn’t beyond them.
