LANCASHIRE, UK – Sheffield Steeldogs are the new leaders of Moralee D1 after picking up a pair of victories over the weekend.

Adrian Palak (2) and James Spurr were on target in their 3-2 win at home to Telford Tigers, while Milan Kolena (2) led the way in a 6-2 success at Deeside Dragons.

Solway Sharks also enjoyed a four point weekend, winning 14-0 on home ice against Deeside and 5-3 at Billingham Stars.

Matty Davies grabbed the winner as Hull Pirates secured a 4-3 overtime victory at Whitley Warriors. Hull were out of luck in the NIHL Autumn Trophy as they fell 6-3 at home to Swindon Wildcats.

Solihull Barons made it five wins from their last six league games courtesy of two weekend road victories. The Barons triumphed 2-1 at Blackburn Hawks and 6-1 at Nottingham Lions.

In the NIHL National Cup, Telford lost 4-2 at home to Basingstoke Bison.

Altrincham Aces are five points clear at the top of Laidler D2 after a 2-0 victory at home to Widnes Wild – Jordan Ashington and Corey Lee got their goals.

Sutton Sting drew level on points with Widnes after a comfortable 11-2 home victory over Blackburn Hawks 2.

Gowan Beddoes hit a hat-trick for Hull Jets in their 5-3 win at Telford Tigers 2. Hull followed up with a 5-4 home success against Bradford Bulldogs – Richard Haggar (2) topped their scoring.

PHN’s top two talking points

Steeldogs prove title credentials

Sheffield Steeldogs have quietly gone about their business since joining the NIHL following the collapse of the EPL.

Victories over Telford and Deeside took them to the top of the table and they look capable of staying there.

The Steeldogs have a talented core of British players, while imports Milan Kolena and Adrian Palak have the ability to rack up big numbers at this level.

Barons on the rise

Solihull made a terrible start to the season, but five wins in their last six games has put them in touching distance of the top half of the table.

Saturday’s victory at Blackburn was particularly impressive, with the home side restricted to just one goal from 44 shots.

The Barons have a well-balanced squad and in their current form could mount a challenge for a top four spot.
